Christmas at the Vineyard

Christmas – Part 1

We will be having our Christmas service on Wednesday, December 24th at 10:30am. Here’s what you can expect to experience during our 75-minute service:
–an in-depth Bible teaching on the Christmas story
–worship (including some of your favorite Christmas Carols)
–communion (we use grape juice for the “cup” so everyone can participate)
–a special presentation from our Vineyard Kids reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas
–an opportunity to receive 1-on-1 prayer
This is one of those days of the year where your friends and family who
normally don’t go to church will attend if they are invited. So pray about who to ask and extend an invitation!

Christmas – Part 2

We will NOT be having church on December 25th. Instead there will be an opportunity to put your faith in action. Celebrate Christmas morning differently this year! Get out of your PJ’s, leave the gifts under the tree, and join us for an hour of caroling at 1 of 3 local nursing homes. Put a smile on the face of the elderly who are often forgotten during the holidays. RSVP by signing up at our Welcome Center on Sundays or e-mail us at for more info.

Experiencing Advent

We are heading into a season that is supposed to be “the most wonderful time of the year” but instead it is often the most stressful. Live differently this year! For the past 2,000 years, Christians have celebrated the season known as Advent as a time of preparation and reflection to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas. That’s why we created an Experiencing Advent handout, to help guide you on the 4 week journey of Advent which begins November 30th. Click HERE to download your free copy.

All-Church Christmas Party

On Sunday December 7th from 12:30pm to 1:45pm we’ll be having our all-church Christmas party right here at Shelby Jr. High! You, your friends, and your family are invited. Lunch will be catered in (it’s our gift to you!), we’ll dim the lights, play some Bing Crosby, and simply hang out and connect. Please RSVP by e-mailing us at or sign up at the Welcome Center on Sundays so we can be sure to order enough food.

Immediately following our Christmas Party we’ll transition to our annual “Open” Advisory Board Meeting where we’ll do a year-in-review and discuss the proposed 2015 budget. This meeting won’t be about spreadsheets and reams of data. Instead we’ll explain our budget in an understandable way and cast vision for what we feel God has in store for our church! (Note: you can just stay for lunch but we hope you’ll stay for both!).

Women’s Christmas Luncheon

Mark your calendars for Dec 6th at 10am for the 4th Annual Women’s Christmas Luncheon at Cherry Creek Golf Course. Come prepared to enjoy a wonderful time of fellowship and get spiritually filled as we prepare for the busy Christmas season! Michelle Alexander and Joe Vercellino from The Eastside Vineyard Church will be teaming up to deliver a spirit led time of worship and encouragement. Lunch will be provided! Please RSVP by emailing or calling Lisa Schlinke at 248-990-7770 or or sign up at the Welcome Table. Tickets are $30.00 per person. Please make your check out to The Eastside Vineyard Church and write Christmas Luncheon on the memo line. You can also mail your check to the church’s address: TEVC, PO BOX 182495, Shelby Twp, MI 48318.

All-Church Picnic and Baptism

This is an all-church picnic so it’s for everybody! We really hope you take this opportunity to join us, hang out, meet new people, and have fun!

If you attended our event last year it’s at the same location. But if this is your first time attending, we gather inside Stony Creek MetroPark at the Eastwood Beach location. Once inside of Eastwood Beach, here are the specifics: if you’re standing on the beach and you are facing the water, we’ll be gathering for our picnic on the grass hill about a couple hundred yards to your LEFT near the tree line. (Click CCF08202014 to view the maps showing WE MEET HERE). Be sure to park in the large parking lot furthest from the beach and closest to the grassy area.

The picnic is Sunday August 24th and starts at 4:00pm. We’ll eat, hang out and have fun for about 90 minutes and then around 5:30pm we’ll gather together. Each baptism candidate will share a bit (more on that below) then we’ll pray, head to the beach and baptize around 6:00pm. Then it’s back to our site for some cake!

What to Bring?
Bring a picnic basket or some carryout. Be sure to bring chairs to sit on or a blanket. There are picnic tables at the park but there is no guarantee they’ll be available.

What If It Rains?
Please pray for sunshine! But if it ends up raining we’ll send an e-mail out by 2:00pm that day, letting you know so you can let your friends and family know that it’ll be rescheduled to a date in early September (exact date and time TBD). But again, please be actively praying for beautiful weather!

The anti-sex trafficking group, ESTHERS Children, is preparing for their 4th Annual Mike Sutherland Memorial Golf Outing (Mike is one of the founders of ESTHERS). Good Friday & Easter Sunday

Please join us for two very special events at The Eastside Vineyard Church:

Good Friday at the Vineyard — April 18th at 7:00pm
“When Jesus hung on the cross, a great unseen cosmic battle raged in the heavens. And in the end Christ triumphed over all the forces of evil and death and Hell…” – Billy Graham
Our service will include:
–in-depth Bible teaching focused on the crucifixion
–opportunity to receive 1-on-1 prayer
Plus… Vineyard Kids offered for birth thru age 3

Easter Sunday at the Vineyard — April 20th at 10:30am
“The Easter stories come at the end of the four gospels, but they are not about an ‘end.’ They are about a beginning. The beginning of God’s new world. The beginning of the kingdom. God is now in charge, on earth as in heaven. What we are witnessing in the resurrection accounts is the birth of new creation. The power that has tyrannized the old creation has been broken, defeated, overthrown. God’s kingdom is now launched, and launched in power and glory, on earth as in heaven.” – N.T. Wright
Our service will include:
–in-depth Bible teaching focused on the resurrection
–opportunity to receive 1-on-1 prayer
Plus… Vineyard Kids offered for birth thru age 3

Please invite your family and friends to both services!

One more thing… between now and Easter Sunday we hope you press into your spiritual journey during Lent. To help you do just that, our leadership created the “Experiencing Lent” handout. It contains a Bible Reading Plan designed specifically for Lent… and much more. Click HERE for your free copy.

Ash Wednesday

Please join us for our first-ever Ash Wednesday service! March 5th at 7:00pm. Right here at Shelby Jr. High. Our service will include:

Love146 at The Eastside Vineyard

A year ago Rob Morris (president and co-founder) of Love146 came to The Eastside Vineyard and preached on the love and justice of God in a world where human trafficking is a sick reality. It was a service we’ll never forget. And we just confirmed that Rob will be coming back to the Vineyard! He’ll be preaching at our church on Sunday October 13, 2013. If you missed Rob the first time around, rearrange your schedule. He is going to bring it! Note: We will be passing the pouches twice that day. The first offering will be the normal one we have every Sunday that supports the ministries and efforts of The Eastside Vineyard Church. The second offering will be a special “love offering” for Love146. Every penny (and we mean every penny) from this offering will go toward their efforts to fight human trafficking. (please make this check payable to “Love 146”).
